No one takes picturesYou throw away your old shoes when you are done with them And forget the dusty miles that you will have to walk To a grocery store to buy another pair A grocery store that won't let you in without the shoes That you no longer have, naked feet kneading dirt When you run home and find only the sooty trail And empty bin left by the garbage truck. Shoeless now you will wander through life Barred from stores, restaurants, parks. You will have to set up a tent on the sidewalk And move into the median between the two ways of the street. I'll Consize your StatementI do not like this Sam-I-Am. I do not like this application cram. I would not like it with a 4.0 GPA I would not like it at all I say! Not with perfect scores or a thousand hours Of community service or money towers! Not with a pretty face or a consistent job Or a dad who is a dead-weight deadbeat slob! Not as a shoe-in not with a rare disease Not with legacy parents or my own brand of cheese! Not from out-of-state not from a crumb-filled plate Not with a mixed family history not from across the sea I do not like it Sam, let me be!
